HUB monthly brunch

Monthly brunch is back! Come on over Sunday March 3rd from 11am – 3pm for some good food and great conversations. We’ll have coffee and tea and some yummy dishes, but please bring a dish of your own to share as well. Can’t wait to see you all! Please rsvp via facebook with an idea of what you’ll be bringing.

Mark your calendars for May 1st and May 16th!!

Summer is nearly here and as the cold weather leaves us we finally come out of our caves and plunge into the light and natural solar heat!!

For the occasion, we have two new events planned, as usual related to the other thing that we love besides being green: FOOD. Thus, the schedule for May is now as follows:

May 1st – Supper club at 7pm, which as usual will be a potluck. Specific apartment to be specified soon.

May 16th –  WAFFLE PARTY!!! And of course, it will be vegan friendly. It will take place at 11AM, so bring toppings/beverages/other foods as you please!!

Hope to see you all there!!

Living Off the Row Open Mic Night Fundraiser

In addition to our usual potluck events, the HUB is hosting a special fundraiser for Ronald Kitchen and Marvin Reeves, two extraordinary men who spent over 20 years behind bars for a crime they did not commit. Mr. Kitchen was sentenced to be executed and Mr. Reeves received life. They were both tortured by the infamous Jon Burge and his henchmen to confess. After years of court hearings, grassroots activism and publicity of their cases, they are now free men. They are rebuilding their lives and integrating themselves back into society. They could use some help!

the HUB is hosting an open mic/jam session/dinner to help Ronald and Marvin get back on their feet. Recite your poetry or stories, bring your instruments and leave the cooking to us. We will provide dinner, beverages, and dessert.

$15 suggested donation for dinner. There will be a dessert table.

Open mic/jam session night!!

Hey guys,

To start with, happy 2010!! Now that I’m back from Spain I can update our blog again, woohoo!!

So, next event planned will be an open mic/jam session night. The idea is that whatever artistic skill you have, you bring it along with you. Whether it is musical, lyrical, writing, stories, poetry, slam pieces, whatever it is, we would like you to share it with us.

As usual, awesome food will be in our company. The date was originally planned for jan/30, but it seems we are all too busy for the date in the end, so it is being pushed back sometime in February. We will decide exact date/place in our next meeting and I’ll post the info here in our blog, so stay tuned!!

Thanksgiving Dinner – November 26th @ 4pm

Hey HUBsters!!

New event coming up!! We live in a big, biiiiiiiiig city, full of pissed off people who rarely say thanks. I think this is reason enough for us to try harder and give thanks, not only in general, but to ourselves too. We tend to do this with our KUDOS minutes in our meetings. Lets extend these to a full blown dinner together where we can enjoy our company and give thanks that we have each other in health, friendship and most importantly, in more difficult situations when we really need each other’s support.

Join us on the 26th for thanksgiving dinner, as usual bring your favorite dish to share with the rest of the HUBsters and family/friends. The event, as stated in this post’s title, starts at 4pm.

Hope to see you there,

txabi

Supper Club on November 6th!! 7.30pm

Hey everybody!!

So, I know that after our successful Breakfast Club you all need some more delightful food and company.

Given that Halloween just passed, it’s only logical to move our Breakfast Club to the dark side, thus another edition of our Supper Club!! It will take place on Novermber 6th, from 7.30pm to 11pm.

Coincidentally it is also Laila and Marcus’ respective birthdays, so maybe we coud spice it up a little bit?

I say we do a halloweened-up edition for this supper club + birthdays, anybody can think of other topics?

Breakfast Club, Saturday October 24th at noon

What is Breakfast Club anyway? I have some talents, but writing, well that isn’t one of them. So, when looking to describe our upcoming fete I looked around for inspiration. I started thinking about why we host these events in the first place. After pondering for a bit, I came across this anecdote that imho fits rather well. Our philosophy is to bring together interesting and talented likeminded people for parties that create an enticing environment to meet new friends and set your taste buds on the prowl.

I haven’t yet figured out what I will be making for this weekend, blueberry pecan pancakes, chocolate bacon french toast, pomegranate cranberry apple tartin, chocolate zucchini muffins, recipes and inspiration abound. So… what are you cooking these days and wouldn’t you love to delight us with your smiling faces and lovely dishes?

Special Vegan Edition Supper Club

Hi people,

in celebrating eating vegan for real now, i’m hosting a potluck for peeps who appreciate the vegs. even if you’re not vegan, pick a recipe, make it, and come on over to share it with others (raw foodies are cool too). This will be a strictly vegan shin-dig. be creative, try something new, be craaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazy. bring libations if you would like but make sure they are vegan (most wines are not vegan, fyi). and for god’s sake, invite your peeps and dazzle them with goodness! we’ll sing, we’ll dance, we’ll karaoke on you tube, etc, etc. If I missed any vegans or friends, please forward.
